Register for Grapes & Grain
KINGSTON, R.I. – Lynn Baker-Dooley and Friends of URI Women’s Athletics will host the fifth annual Evening of Grapes & Grain on Saturday, June 7.
Through the vision of Baker-Dooley, Grapes & Grain has grown each year and has become the signature fundraiser each year for Rhode Island women's athletics. Last year, the event raised nearly $70,000, and the goal this year is to top $100,000.
"Five years ago, Lynn Baker-Dooley saw the opportunity to engage our community and increase awareness and support for our women’s athletics programs at Rhode Island," said Marnie Dacko, coordinator of development, marketing and special projects for women’s athletics. "In addition to becoming a spectacular event, Grapes & Grain has enabled us to enhance every one of our programs and provide the teams more opportunities to improve the student-athlete experience."
Designer Carolyn Rafaelian (right), founder and creative director of Alex and Ani, will serve as the honorary chair for Grapes & Grain. The event will include a wide selection of fine wines and specialty beers along with select foods provided by top area restaurants and businesses. The highlight of the evening will be an auction of unique items donated by members of our local alumni and business community.
"This truly has become a first-class event, and it mirrors the student-athlete experience we aim to provide for all of our teams," Dacko said.
This year, all 10 Rhode Island’s women’s teams received funding for various projects. More than $62,000 was dispersed among the teams for various team building programs, facility enhancements and professional development opportunities.
Over the next three months, GoRhody.com will run a series of feature stories to spotlight how each of the teams is using money raised through Grapes & Grain. This will give community members the chance to see just how meaningful their support is for the teams and the more than 200 female student-athletes at URI.
Pre-event registration for Grapes & Grain is $100. All proceeds will benefit URI Women’s Athletics, and $50 of each ticket is tax deductible. Reservations made after May 23 will cost $125 per person.
