Jeffrey S. Williams ('77)
Position: Football
JEFFREY S. WILLIAMS '77 was one of Rhode Island's all-time great offensive linemen. He was a four-year letterman at URI and four-year starter from 1973-76, beginning as a tight-end and moving to offensive tackle, where he established himself as one of the nation's finest at his position. He was rated by experts as the best in New England, among the top 5 in the East and top 10 in the country. Running 40 yards in 4.7 seconds at 6-4, 258, he was so quick that he was used as a pulling tackle on run plays, a role usually designated for guards. A fifth-round choice by the Los Angeles Rams, Williams played for them from 1977-78. His NFL career also took him to the Washington Redskins (1979-80), the San Diego Chargers (1981) and the Chicago Bears (1982).
