The URI Spirit Program is committed to providing a dynamic and positive environment for young women to pursue all aspects of excellence. This includes character, self-discipline, commitment and leadership. We believe in education through sport, practicality and promoting community and pride in the University of Rhode Island.
URI Cheer is a Division 1 All-Girl cheerleading squad. The cheerleaders are a major part of the University and community. This presence stems from our spirit and support at the football, and men's and women's basketball games.
In addition to the cheerleaders' commitment to athletic events, the squad attends UCA College Camp at the University of Delaware in the preseason and travels with the basketballl teams in the postseason. The cheerleaders have attended the UCA College National Championship for the past three years. The squad recorded fifth place finishes in 2014 and 2015, and a seventh place finish in 2016.
If you are strongly interested in the program, it would be beneficial to plan a visit and organize a day with a current cheerleader. This can include the observation of a practice and/or game day experience.
Tryouts to join the team for the upcoming academic year take place in late April/early May. Details will be posted here as they are finalized.
