DANCE
Mission Statement:
URI Spirit Program is committed to providing a dynamic and
positive environment for young woman to pursue all aspects of
excellence. This includes character, self discipline, commitment
and leadership. We believe in education through sport, practicality
and promoting community and pride in the University of Rhode
Island.
Team Information:
The Ramettes are official dance team of the URI Athletic
Department. As one of the University's Spirit Groups, the Ramettes'
primary role is to offer spirit and entertainment at the Men's and
Women's Basketball games each season. They are the featured
halftime entertainment and also perform short routines to keep the
Rhody fans involved throughout the entire game. Performing dances
to everything from Katie Perry to Lady Gaga, the Ramettes are a
dynamic and versatile group of URI's best dancers.
They are a long-standing tradition at the University of Rhode
Island, with the first Ramettes squad created in the 1960's;
however, they have been revived in the late 1990's with a new image
that mirrors many of today's collegiate dance teams. They are noted
for their high-energy dances that include jazz, hip-hop, pom and
contemporary styles.
In addition to performing at the Men's and Women's Basketball
games, the Ramettes also perform at University events like Midnight
Madness, Rhody Rally, and Homecoming. The Ramettes participate in
UDA training on an annual basis, where they fine-tune technique,
take master classes, and receive evaluation on numerous routines
that they learn during the pre-season camp. The Ramettes practice 2
to 3 times per week.
