KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island's Billy Walthouse was one of five golfers selected to the 2017 Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference team, announced Thursday by the conference office. A Business Administration major with a minor in Communications, Walthouse earns the honor for the second year in a row as he also landed a spot on the A-10's 2016 All-Academic squad.

One of the top student-athletes in the history of the Rhody golf program, Walthouse finished his collegiate career as a three-time Atlantic 10 All-Conference honoree while earning eight A-10 Golfer of the Week awards along the way. The 2016 New England Golfer of the Year, he also was a three-time All-Region performer as well as a Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) All-American Scholar.

This past year, he posted four top-3 finishes and helped lead URI to team titles in four of its 10 tournaments. He was Rhody's top finisher in five out of 10 tournaments, recorded five under-par finishes and carded nine sub-70 rounds. He also was presented with the Paul Cieurzo Outstanding Player Award as well as the the Quigley Statistical Champion Award at the 2017 Rhody Golf season-ending team banquet.

During his junior season, the Longmeadow, Mass. native became just the seventh Rhode Island golfer ever to qualify for the NCAA Regionals as an individual.

Throughout his four years in Kingston, Walthouse was a three-time individual medalist, had 13 top-5 finishes and 18 top-10 finishes in 41 career tournaments.

He is joined on the 2017 Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference team by Jack Lang (Davidson), Eric Edwards (George Mason), Brock Kovach (George Mason) and Patrick Sheerer (St. Bonaventure).
