KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island's Dawson Jones and Chris Francoeur have been named Atlantic 10 Golfer and Rookie of the Week, respectively. announced Thursday by the conference office. Both Rams played a key role in leading Rhody to a second-place finish at the Wildcat Invitaitonal earlier this week.
Jones - who earns his second career A-10 Golfer of the Week award - carded the low round of the day for the Rams (-3) on Tuesday, finishing the par-71 course in 68 stroks. His second-round score put him even for the tournament (74-68=142) and moved him from 22nd place into a tie for fifth overall.
Francoeur - now a three-time A-10 Rookie of the Week - finished with a 72.5 stroke average. After opening with a 73 (+2) on Monday, he carded a 72 (+1) on Tuesday, climbing four spots on the leaderboard to tie for 14th place (73-72=145) among the field of 104.
The Rams are back in action on Monday, April 16 when they open play at the Rhode Island Invitational. The event - which will take place at Quidnessett Country Club in North Kingstown, R.I. - will conclude on Tuesday, April 17.
