Rams Add Syracuse Transfer and Rhode Island Native Davida Dale

KINGSTON, R.I. – One of the top high school players ever to come out of the state, Providence native Davida Dale has transferred to Rhode Island from Syracuse. Rhode Island head coach Daynia La-Force announced the 5-11 shooting guard as the newest member of the Rams Wednesday morning.

"We are so happy to have Davida continue her career here at home with us at Rhode Island," La-Force said. "More importantly, she is joining our family. We take great pride in representing our University and state on and off the court, and now that will all be modeled by a true daughter of Rhode Island. We can not wait for our fans and this state to see Davida reach her full, elite potential in our program."

Coming out of high school, Dale was a four-star recruit, ranked as the No. 74 player in the Class of 2015 by espnW HoopGurlz, which also rated her as the No. 17 guard in her class. National recruiting expert Bret McCormick of All Star Girl's Report ranked Davida as the 40th best player in that class. A McDonald's All-America nominee, she led La Salle to two straight Rhode Island Division I state championships before transferring to St. Andrews as a junior and then playing her senior season at Juanita Sanchez. She was named the most valuable player of the 2013 state tournament as a Sophomore after tallying 16 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and four steals in the final.

Dale spent the last two years at Syracuse. She was part of the 2015-16 team that reached the national championship game against Connecticut, though she sat out a redshirt season that year. Last season, she appeared in 11 games as a reserve, playing behind WNBA draft picks Brittney Sykes (7th overall, Atlanta Dream) and Alexis Peterson (15th overall, Seattle Storm).

Rhode Island was a finalist for Dale out of high school before she ultimately chose Syracuse. She also received offered from Rutgers, West Virginia, Miami and many others.

Dale will sit out the 2017-18 season due to transfer rules before joining the Rams for multiple years. She and fellow transfer Erin Jones – who came to Rhode Island from Hartford – will both suit up for the Rams in the 2018-19 season.

Dale and Jones are part of a major recruiting class this year that also includes incoming freshmen Marta Vargas, Maia Moffitt, Abby Streeter and Jessica Rogers.
