BARCELONA, SPAIN - Rhode Island women's basketball won the final game of their foreign tour on Friday, defeating the Barcelona All-Stars 80-63.
Rhody jumped ahead 21-12 after the first quarter and established a lead of as much as 16 points in the second period thanks to scoring possessions from Gabrielle Green, Elemy Colome, Maia Moffitt, and Jalissa Ross. But the All-Stars would not go down without a fight, starting a 14-0 run of their own that included 10 points from the free throw line to get within two before the half (34-32).
The Rams protected their advantage after halftime, and a jumper by Davida Dale followed by a steal and fast break by Ross gave the Rams momentum and they ended the third quarter up 55-42.
Rhode Island never lost its lead for the remainder of regulation, capping off their foreign tour with the victory.
"This experience has set the tone for our season," said head coach Daynia La-Force. "Successfully competing and overcoming challenges are things we struggled with last season. We proved that our maturity and experience is the recipe for the 2018-19 season."
