Kostelis Named Women's Soccer Associate Head Coach

KINGSTON, R.I. — Rhode Island head coach Megan Jessee announced George Kostelis as the women's soccer associate head coach. Kostelis joins the Rhode Island staff after spending one year as an assistant coach at Southern Connecticut State.

"I am very excited to welcome George to the Rhode Island women's soccer staff," Jessee said. "He brings with him many years of playing and coaching experience, as well as a vast knowledge of the game of soccer. George is going to be a valuable part of creating a championship level program here at Rhode Island."

In addition to his time at Southern Connecticut State, Kostelis spent five years as head coach for the Western Connecticut State Colonials. He also spent 10 seasons as an assistant coach and goalkeeper's coach at Yale. During his time at Yale, he helped guide the Bulldogs to an Ivy League title and a berth in the NCAA College Cup.

Kostelis was an assistant coach for the University of Connecticut women's soccer program (1997-2000). The Huskies twice reached the NCAA Elite Eight, and were also NCAA finalists. He also was an assistant at Hartford, his alma mater, in 1995.

The West Hartford, Conn. native enjoyed a decorated collegiate playing career at Hartford, where he earned a degree in Human Services in 1993. He was inducted in the Hawk's Alumni Hall of Fame in 2007.
