How it Happened
Three Rhode Island errors led to four unearned runs for Saint Louis, as the Rams fell in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader, 11-0, in five innings.
Saint Louis took advantage of sloppy defense by the Rams (11-15, 2-4 Atlantic 10) in the bottom of the second. The Billikens (13-21, 5-5 A-10) loaded the bases on two errors and a walk. After an out was recorded at the plate, Saint Louis got a run in on a fielder's choice. With two outs and runners on first and second, Rhody had a chance to get out of the jam with limited damage. However, Alex Nickel delivered a two-out, two-run double to push the lead to 3-0.
Saint Louis added two runs in the third inning and six more in the bottom of the fourth. The run support made life easy for Laney Knieb, who earned the shutout victory while limiting Rhode Island to one hit.
