KINGSTON, R.I. - With a 6-8 record in Atlantic 10 games, the Rhode Island volleyball team (11-15 overall), has earned the #5 seed for next weekend's conference championship. The Rams will open tournament play on Friday, Nov. 17, against fourth-seeded Duquesne. All matches will be played at the AJ Palumbo Center, on the campus of Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pa.
VCU - which posted a perfect 14-0 conference record - claimed the regular season title as well as the #1 seed. Dayton finished league play at 13-1 to earn the #2 seed. As such, both teams received a first-round bye and will begin play in Saturday's semifinals. VCU will get the winner of the Rhode Island/Duquesne matchup while Dayton will face either #3 Saint Louis or #6 George Washington.
The winners of Saturday's semifinal matchups will advance to Sunday's championship game with the winner of the single-elimination tournament receiving the Atlantic 10's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
All tournament matches will streamed free of charge on the A-10 Network. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children and are available on-site at the championship. Students with a valid ID from Atlantic 10 member institutions will be admitted free of charge.
