RHODE ISLAND VS. UALBANY - SERIES NOTES
- Rhode Island and UAlbany are meeting for the first time in men's basketball.
- The Great Danes come to the Ryan Center with a 1-2 record, falling to Marquette 80-53 and Massachusetts 83-62 before beating Division III SUNY Delhi 115-52 on Tuesday night.
- UAlbany was picked to finish second in the America East Preseason Coaches Poll.
- Guard Amir Lindsey was named to the America East Preseason All-Conference Team.
- Lindsey leads the Great Danes with 15.3 points per game while also averaging 4.3 assists per game.
NEW MAN OF STEAL FOR RHODE ISLAND
- Tyler Cochran set a Rhode Island single-game program record with nine steals Monday against Stonehill.
- He broke the previous mark of eight by Fatts Russell against Saint Louis on March 1, 2020.
- Through three games, Cochran has already recorded 16 steals, which ranks second in the country behind Bowling Green's Javontae Campbell.
- Campbell and Cochran are 1-2 nationally in steals per game at 5.67 and 5.33, respectively.
- Cochran has had at least three steals in each game thus far.
- He had four in the season opener against Stetson and then three against Tulsa at the Veteran's Classic.
- He is just five steals shy of 200 for his career.
- Cochran has recorded 62 steals in a season twice, doing so at Ball State in 2021-22 and again at Toledo in 2023-24.
- He was the MAC Defensive Player of the Year for Toledo in 2023-24.
RAMS GETTING IT DONE AT THE FREE THROW LINEÂ
- During Monday's win over Stonehill, Rhode Island was 18-for-22 at the free throw line.
- The Rams rank 28th nationally with a .800 free throw percentage as a team.
- That percentage ranks third in the Atlantic 10.
- Rhode Island is 52-for-65 from the stripe.
- Myles Corey (1.000; 5-for-5), RJ Johnson (1.000; 4-for-4), Jahmere Tripp (.900; 9-for-10), Keeyan Itejere (.875; 7-for-8) and Jonah Hinton (.846; 11-for-13) are all shooting better than .800 while also attempting at least one free throw per game.Â
- The Rams have outscored the opposition by 10 points at the free throw line thus far.
- Last season Rhode Island shot .694 from the free throw line.
