RHODE ISLAND VS. MAINE - SERIES NOTES

  • Rhode Island travels to Maine for its second straight road matchup.
  • The Rams are fresh off a 59-52 win at Saint Joseph's, picking up their first conference victory of the season last time out.
  • Historically, Rhody is 14-15 against the Black Bears.
  • Maine has won the last two meetings in the series. The last Rhody win was Dec. 4, 2022.
  • The last time Rhode Island won in Orono was Nov. 30, 2005.
  • URI is 3-1 on the road while the Black Bears are 2-1 at home this season.
  • Maine has already faced three opponents that also appear on Rhode Island's schedule: Saint Joseph's (63-62 loss), NC State (66-47 loss), and VCU (81-77 loss). The Rams have defeated both Saint Joseph's and NC State, and will meet VCU twice this season: first on Jan. 14 and again at home on Feb. 11
  • A win Sunday would be the eighth of the young season, the best start for the Rams since 2022-23.

SCOUTING THE BLACK BEARS

  • Maine is led by Adrianna Smith's 17.2 points per game. She's nearly averaging a double-double, pulling down 9.3 rebounds per game.
  • Smith was named to the America East Preseason All-Conference Team.
  • Maine head coach Amy Vachon enters year nine at the helm. She's been a five-time America East Coach of the Year (2017-18, 2018-19, 2020-21, 2021-22, 2023-24).
  • The Black Bears fell 58-35 to Penn last time out.
  • Maine was selected to finish second in the America East Preseason Poll.

1-0

  • Last time out, Rhode Island opened Atlantic 10 play with a 59-52 road victory at Saint Joseph's.
  • For the fifth straight year, the Rams opened A-10 action with a win.
  • Head coach Tammi Reiss moves to 65-33 in league play.
  • Rhody scored the first six points of the game and never trailed. After building a lead to as many as 14 points, URI withstood a second-half rally to secure the key A-10victory.
  • The Rams avenged the overtime loss to the Hawks (6-2, 0-1 A-10) that ended the 2024-25 season in the Atlantic 10 Championship last March.
  • The Rams did not miss from the free throw line in the victory over the Hawks, connecting at the charity stripe down the stretch and ended up finishing 13-for-13 as a team.
