Baseball Drops 9-1 Decision at Sacred Heart

How it Happened
Rhode Island (17-19) fell behind early and was unable to rally back, dropping a 9-1 decision at Sacred Heart on Friday.

The Pioneers (13-22) took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second and led 4-0 through four innings.

The Rams plated their lone run of the game in the top of the fifth as Josh Brodeur hit a leadoff double, advanced to third on a fly-out by Justin Cherry and then scored on a Jordan Laske groundout.

Sacred Heart used a three-run sixth to stretch its lead to 7-1, and then scored twice more in the seventh for the eventual 9-1 victory.

Inside the Box Score

  • Redshirt sophomore Josh Brodeur went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored.
  • Redshirt freshman Jordan Laske drove in Brodeur in the top of the fifth for his first career RBI. Laske also reached once by way of the walk.
  • Sophomore Austin White singled for the Rams, extending his reached-base streak to a team-best 30 consecutive games.
  • Redshirt senior Sam Ilario had a pinch-hit single in the top of the ninth.
  • Sophomore starter Ryan Twitchell was charged with the loss, allowing four runs on seven hits through 4.1 innings. He also recorded four strikeouts.
