KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island junior Chris Francoeur and freshman Bryson Richards have been named A-10 Co-Golfer and Rookie of the Week, respectively, announced Friday afternoon by the conference office. Both Rams helped lead Rhody to the team title at the Wildcat Fall Invitational earlier this week.
Francoeur placed second in the tournament, finishing the three-round event at 7-under (69-70-67=206). His third-round 67 helped him jump from sixth to second place overall. Through four tournaments this season, Francoeur's stroke average is an impressive 69.2.
Richards tied for 13th at the same tournament, finishing 3-over (69-72-75=216). The Rhody rookie has had an impressive start to his career, turning in top-20 finishes in each of URI's last three events and having carded four sub-70 rounds to date.
For Francoeur, the Golfer of the Week nod is his third of the season while Richards has now collected Rookie of the Week honors twice.
The Rams return to action October 14-15 at the Georgetown Intercollegiate.
