KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island freshman Roger Penske has been named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week for the second week in a row, announced Tuesday afternoon by the conference office.
A native of Newport Coast, Calif., Penske combined for seven saves in a pair of shutout victories last week. He made four saves in URI's 4-0 win at Bryant and stopped each of the three shots he faced in the Rams' 1-0 victory over Penn State.
The Rhody rookie has yet to concede a goal this season, helping URI improve to 3-0 with his back-to-back-to-back shutout performances. He is the only A-10 goalkeepers with a perfect 0.00 goals against average still intact.
Penske's A-10 Rookie of the Week award is Rhode Island's league-leading 14th since the start of the 2013 season, when Gareth Elliott took over as head coach of the Rams. Dayton and Saint Louis have the next most during that span, with six each.
Rhody (3-0-0) is back in action Wednesday night, when it hosts Holy Cross at 7 p.m.
