Penske Named Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week

KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island freshman goalkeeper Roger Penske has collected Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week accolades, announced Monday afternoon by the conference office. The A-10 honor is the third in as many weeks for the Newport Coast, Calif. native, who was the league's Rookie of the Week last week and the week before.

Penske turned away each of the five shots he faced Saturday night at Marist, recording his fourth consecutive shutout victory in the process. He is the only goalkeeper in the Atlantic 10 rankings with a 0.00 goals against average. Teammate Stefan Schmidt also has a 0.00 GAA, but has not logged enough minutes to qualify for the conference's rankings.

Rhode Island returns to action at Providence on Tuesday, Sept. 18.
