KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island redshirt freshman Edvin Akselsen has collected Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honors for the second week in a row, announced Monday by the conference office.
A native of Oslo, Norway, Akselsen helped lead Rhode Island to a pair of wins over conference rivals UMass and Dayton last week. Against the Minutemen on Wednesday, he set up Stavros Zarokostas' game-tying goal, which helped URI overcome a 2-0 deficit. Rhode Island went on to win that game by a score of 3-2.
Three days later against Dayton, the Rhody rookie headed in what proved to be the game-winning goal at the 79:02 mark. He later added an insurance goal with just 44 seconds remaining in regulation.
Akselsen now has 16 points (6g/4a) on the season and has recorded at least one point in seven of his nine games played.
The Rams are back in action Saturday night at Duquesne.
