KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island swept the Atlantic 10 conference awards this week. Adam Franklin was named Track Performer, Greg McManus earned Field Performer, and Sawyer Moe was Rookie of the Week, the league announced Tuesday morning.
The Rams had a busy week, competing at both the Holy Cross Men's Meet last Tuesday, and the Penn Relays on Friday and Saturday.
On Tuesday, Franklin ran two season bests, winning both the 400 meter hurdles (52.48s) and 110 meter hurdles (14.45s) at the Holy Cross Men's Meet. His time in the 400 meter hurdles is leading the conference and his 110 meter hurdle time was a personal best. The 400 meter hurdle time is currently ranked 37th in the NCAA East Prelim.
McManus also competed twice this week, first winning the javelin throw at Tuesday's Holy Cross Men's Meet. His season best throw of 60.44 meters (198' 3") now leads the conference. He then threw 58.72 meters (192' 7") to finish seventh in the college section of the Penn Relays on Saturday.
Moe finished second in the javelin throw at Tuesday's Holy Cross Men's Meet with a throw of 59.02 meters (193' 8"). He's currently second in the conference with that mark.
This is Franklin's first conference weekly accolade, as he collected Rookie of the Week twice during his freshman campaign. The honor is the third for McManus and the Rookie of the Week nod is Moe's second in the outdoor season.
The Rams return to competition this Saturday to begin the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championship hosted by Massachusetts. Events are scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m.
