Jacobs, Franklin Earn Atlantic 10 All-Academic Nods

KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island sophomore Derek Jacobs and senior Adam Franklin were named to the Atlantic 10 All-Academic team, the league announced Wednesday.

Jacobs finished fourth in the discus (46.76m) at the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championship, and eighth in the shot put (15.29m). The Westerly, R.I. native had three first-place finishes in the discus this outdoor season including a season-best 50.28 meter (164' 11") throw at the Bryant Black & Gold Invitational. He won the shot put with a mark of 15.47 meters (50' 9.25") at the Holy Cross Men's Meet and threw a career-best 15.54 meters (51' 0") in the shot put at the UConn Northeast Challenge.

Last weekend, Jacobs finished fourth in the discus at the New England Championship with a throw of 47.62 meters.

Jacobs is a Computer Science major while maintaining a 3.95 GPA.

Franklin placed third in the 110 meter hurdles (14.61s) at the A-10 Outdoor Championship. He also placed fourth in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 53.16 seconds. The Boonton Town, N.J. native was named Track Performer of the Week on April 30 after running two season-bests, winning both the 400 meter hurdles (52.48s) and 110 meter hurdles (14.45s) at the Holy Cross Men's Meet.

Most recently, Franklin took the 400 meter hurdle crown at the New England Championship in a time of 52.06 seconds and placed third in the 110 meter hurdles in 14.36 seconds, beating both of his previous season-bests.

A team captain, Franklin owns a 3.80 GPA as a Communications major.
