Jorgensen Named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week

KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island senior Nicole Jorgensen was named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week after averaging 26 points and 9.5 rebounds in two games of the season-opening week. It is the second career conference Player of the Week nod for the Quincy, Mass. native.

Jorgensen had an explosive first game of the year, scoring 29 points on 12-of-15 from the field in 22 minutes. She added two blocks and dished out an assist in the season-opening victory over LIU (11/7).

The 6'5 center then scored 23 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for her 20th career double-double in the win at Hartford (11/10). Her 10th point of the game marked the 1,000th point of her career, making her just the 22nd Ram in program history to reach the milestone. Her performance at the free throw line (13-of-13) ranks third all-time.

Jorgensen helped lead the Rams to a 2-0 start, the best since the 2002-03 season. Head coach Tammi Reiss is just the second coach in program history to win her first two games at the helm. The only other head coach to do so was Nancy Langham in the 1977-78 season.

The Rams return to action this Friday at North Dakota. Gametime is set for 12:00 pm CT.
