Four Rams Win on First Day of West Point Invitational

WEST POINT, N.Y. - Four Rhode Island players won their opening round singles matches at the West Point Invitational Friday. Sophomore Erin Chratian, junior Halah Davis, sophomore Sydney Chratian and sophomore Paulina Loredo were all victorious on the first day of competition.

In the A Singles draw, Erin Chratian was paired against Seton Hall's Melody Taal. Chratian won in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4.

Competing in the B Singles flight, Davis defeated Air Force Academy's Sydney Fitch in straight sets. After taking the opening set 6-2, Davis took the next set 6-3.

Sydney Chratian - who was in the C Singles flight - also was victorious in straight sets. She beat NJIT's Advaita Saravan, 6-3, 6-2.

In the D Flight, Loredo outlasted Quinnipiac's Payton Bradley. Loredo took the opening set 6-4, dropped the second set 1-6, then won the tie-breaking super set, 11-9.

In doubles action, sophomore Erin Chratian and senior Rachel Smilansky combined on a win in the A Doubles flight. They defeated Kirova and Pam from Stony Brook, 6-4 in the opening round. Chratian and Smilansky were beaten by Air Force Academy's Lieberman and Hanley, 6-3.
