WEST POINT, N.Y. - Rhode Island sophomore Erin Chratian battled, but eventually dropped a three-set marathon to Rutgers' Sydney Jones on the second day of the West Point Invitational Saturday.
After winning her opening round match Friday, Chratian started hot Saturday, taking the first set, 6-1. However, Jones rebounded to even the score by winning the second set, 6-4. The tie-breaking superset went 24 points, with Jones taking it, 13-11.
Rhody senior Rachel Smilansky and sophomore Sydney Chratian played well in their respective consolation bracket matches. Smilansky fell to Stony Brooks' Kristine Theys 8-7 (7-5) in the A Singles Consolation bracket. Chratian lost via the same score to Fordham's Tatiana Eftenoiu in the C Singles Consolation bracket.
