Castro Earns Atlantic 10 Player of the Week Accolades

KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island's Audrey Castro has been named Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Week, announced Monday afternoon by the conference office. She shares the weekly award with Dayton's Jessica Sloan.

A Long Beach, Calif. native, Castro double-doubled in back-to-back road wins this past weekend, allowing the Rams to keep a firm grip on second place in the Atlantic 10 standings. The senior outside hitter recorded match-highs in kills in both contests, collecting 20 at Davidson and 21 at VCU. She also registered 14 digs against the Wildcats and 13 against the Rams.

Castro - who earns A-10 Player of the Week accolades for the first time in her career - added a pair of assists, three service aces and five blocks. For the weekend, she averaged 4.56 kills per set and 5.28 points per set.

Castro is the third Ram to earn A-10 weekly honors this season as Layne Self was twice tabbed Defensive Player of the Week (Sept. 6, Sept. 26) and Callan Kinnan collected Offensive Player of the Week honors on Oct. 3.

Rhode Island (14-9, 9-2) is back in action on Friday night, when George Washington visits Keaney Gym for a 7 p.m. match. The following night, URI will play in its final home match of the season, versus George Mason at 7 p.m. Prior to the start of the game, the senior trio of Castro, Self and Kinnan will be recognized in a brief Senior Night ceremony.
