KINGSTON, R.I. – Rhode Island was swept at Yale Saturday morning in its final competition before heading to Indianapolis for the NCAA Championship.
Racing into a moderate headwind on the Housatonic River in Derby, Conn., each of the Rhody boats fell to the Yale counterparts by roughly 24 seconds. Yale, which heads to the Ivy League Championship next weekend, went into the weekend ranked No. 9 in the latest CRCA/US Rowing Coaches poll.
Despite Saturday's results, the Rams season is far from finished. The team returns to Kingston for a couple weeks of practices before making its first-ever appearance at the NCAA Championship May 31 through June 2 at Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis.
Rhode Island earned an automatic bid to the 22-team championship field by winning its second consecutive Atlantic 10 title on May 4. It was the team's fourth conference title since 2008.
