BOSTON, MASS. — Senior Nigel Hill set a new Rhode Island record in the 200 meter dash by running a personal best 21.06 seconds at the Last Chance Meet hosted by Boston University. Hill's mark broke the record set by legendary Ashhad Agyapong (21.08 seconds in 2007) - a record that was also set at the BU Track and Tennis Center.
Hill's record marks the third Rhode Island record he has set in as the last two meets. Last week at the Atlantic 10 Indoor Track & Field Championship, Hill broke the 60 meter dash program record twice with times of 6.82 seconds in the preliminaries and 6.75 seconds in the finals. Those efforts as well as his victory in the 200 meter dash earned him A-10 Most Outstanding Track Performer of the Championship as he led his team to their 22nd Atlantic 10 title. In the process he also broke the Mackal 60 meter dash record twice in the same meet as well as tying and then breaking the Atlantic 10 records.
Hill has been ranked as high as 16th in the NCAA and is currently ranked 23rd in the NCAA. Selections for the NCAA will take place early this week. Only 16 athletes will be chosen to compete in the NCAA Finals being conducted at College Station, Texas March 9-10.
