KINGSTON, R.I. – For the second time in three years, Rhode Island Athletics experienced record-setting levels of financial support from alumni, fans, and friends.
This collective generosity led to $7.6 million in new commitments for the fiscal year. The previous high, accomplished in 2019, was $4.6 million.
Over the last three years, the Athletics Development Office and has brought in more than $14.2 million. One significant area of improvement has been through URI Day of Giving. Last year's effort brought in a record $1.2 million for students, programs, and more, including more than $350,000 specifically for athletics. This year's Day of Giving (

"The support we receive from our donors and stakeholders is vital in the growth of our entire department," Director of Athletics
Thorr Bjorn said. "Collegiate athletics is a partnership venture with our entire community, and the impact of that support is massive. It truly speaks to the work of the Athletics Development Office and URI Foundation & Alumni Engagement to create meaningful connections with our constituents."
Last March, a $3 million gift from Stefan Soloviev and his family toward an $8 million basketball practice facility was announced. This came just two years after a $4.1 million project to install lights and field turf at Meade Stadium.
"Championship expectations are made possible through championship-caliber support," Bjorn said. "Over the last three years, we have seen a significant increase in that support, which has led to tangible, high-impact improvements for our student-athletes."
