Athletics Department Investigation Process for Current Student-Athletes

Ram Head

Any student-athlete who has experienced or witnessed alleged misconduct or unlawful behavior should first meet with their sport administrator (unless the sport administrator is part of the allegation, at which time the student-athlete should meet with the Senior Woman Administrator or the Athletics Director).

The sport administrator will listen to the concerns, discuss available support resources, inform the student-athlete of the available reporting processes, and then ask the student-athlete to provide their concerns in writing by using the applicable link to report their concerns. The sport administrator should inform the student-athlete that the Athletics Department Investigation Process is not a confidential process.

The report describing the allegation will be reviewed by the sport administrator and shared with the person that is named in the allegation. The person named in the allegation will have the opportunity to provide a written response to the allegation. The sport administrator will then meet with the person named in the allegation to discuss their written response.

The sport administrator will brief the Athletics Director on the interviews conducted with the student-athlete and the person named in the allegation. The sport administrator will also provide the Athletics Director with copies of both the student-athlete report and the written response of the person named in the allegation. The Athletics Director will be responsible for sharing the student-athlete report and the written response of the person named in the allegation with other offices if necessary, including the Office of Human Resource Administration and/or the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs. The Athletics Director will provide these offices with the next course of action which may include:

1)      Additional interviews with other parties who may have witnessed the incident surrounding the allegation

2)      Review of any documents, emails etc. related to the allegation

3)      Review of student-athlete end of season evaluations and senior exit interviews to determine any patterns

All information gathered will be shared with the Athletics Director who will then share with the Office of Human Resource Administration and/or the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs, as applicable, to see if any additional interviews or information should be reviewed.

Based upon all information surrounding the allegation, the Athletics Director and sport administrator will determine the validity of the allegation and what additional personnel or conduct action should be taken. The final report will be shared with the Office of Human Resource Administration and/or the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs, as applicable, for their approval of findings and intended action.

The Athletics Director will then provide a written response to the student-athlete with the findings. Any personnel decisions will remain confidential, unless determined otherwise by the Office of Human Resource Administration.
