Brooke Boening joined the Rhode Island softball staff as an assistant coach in October of 2015.

In her first season with the Rams, Boening helped freshman Becca Rogers earn Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team honors. Rogers had nine wins in her first season, which was six more victories than the entire team had the previous year.

Boening came to Rhode Island after spending the 2014 season as an assistant coach with Northwestern State, her alma mater. A four-year standout pitcher for the Lady Demons, Boening was brought to Rhody to work closely with the Ram pitchers.

"We are all extremely excited to welcome Brooke into our Ram softball family," head coach Bridget Hurlman said in announcing the hire of Boening. "Brooke showed great passion for growing our pitching staff and genuine excitement toward helping all of our young women become champions both on and off the field."

Boening is in charge of the pitching staff. She also handles team travel and community service outreach, and she assists in areas of academics, compliance and recruiting.

In 2015 with Northwestern State, Boening coached the Southland Pitcher of the Year, Mikayla Brown, who ranked as high as seventh in the NCAA in earned run average that season. The Lady Demons led the conference with a team ERA of 1.19, down from 4.43 the previous season. Boening's staff also led the conference in lowest opposing batting average (.266) and combined for 10 shutouts.

During her playing career from 2010-13, Boening led Northwestern State to a Southland Conference championship her senior season. She was 8-6 with a 3.26 ERA while making 12 starts in 21 appearances. She struck out 60 batters in just 77.1 innings pitched wand had a pair of complete games. She won 28 games and had seven saves. In four seasons, she appeared in 111 games with 52 starts. Boening threw 14 complete games and was part of eight shutouts.

A native of Floresville, Texas, Boening received her undergraduate degree in Health and Exercise Science with a minor in English.
