Art Tuveson begins his 34th year at Rhode Island and his fourthyear as Assistant Director, Facilities Management and Planning in2014-15. Tuveson assumed his current role in January 2008 and isresponsible for facility management and planning with respect tothe intercollegiate, club and recreational sports programs.

He handles all facility maintenance issues while serving as theathletic department's liaison with architectural firms. Tuveson isresponsible for special operations/projects which may be on-goingor short-term and which require planning, coordination andsupervision. He served as Assistant Director for RecreationalServices and Facilities from 1990-2004.

Currently, Tuveson is involved in the planning for the newStudent Athlete Development Center with Strength &Conditioning/Academic Advisement & Sports Information. Inaddition to the center he is also involved in the new TennisPavilion.

Most recently, Tuveson was involved in project planning &oversight of the new turfed Baseball Field & indoorBatting Practice facilities, the new Tennis Court facility, and theMeade Stadium renovations. Tuveson was instrumental in thecompletion of the $12 million Bradford Boss Ice Arena in 2002 whilealso helping with the plans for The Ryan Center. He has also helpedwith the planning and construction of Mackal Field House, ArriganSailing Pavilion, and Campanella Rowing Center.

Tuveson came to Kingston in 1980 as Director of RecreationalServices, a post which he held until his promotion in 1990. Duringthat time, he was responsible for the planning, organization, andcoordination of a comprehensive and diverse recreational servicesprogram that would meet the needs of the URI community. Thisincluded open recreation, club sports, fitness/wellness, aquatics,sailing, and intramurals, as well as maintaining a master scheduleof all indoor and outdoor events.

After serving as the Coordinator of Club Sports and the Asst.Director of Recreation and Student Activities as both an undergradand post-grad at UNH, Tuveson was named Director of Recreation atthe University of Wisconsin-Stout in 1978. While at UW-Stout, hewas responsible for the administration, organization, anddevelopment of the intramural and club sport programs. Two yearslater, Tuveson relocated to Kingston.

Tuveson has served on a myriad of committees and hasaffiliations with the National Intramurals Recreational SportsAssociation (NIRSA), Ontario Recreation Facility Association(ORFA), Serving the American Rink (S.T.A.R.) (USA Hockey), NorthEast Ice Skating Managers Association (NEISMA), Ice SkatingInstitute (ISI), International Association of Assembly Members(IAAM), and Sports Turf Managers Association (STMA).

A 1972 graduate of the University of New Hampshire, Tuvesonreceived his master's degree in recreation administration from theUniversity of Oregon in 1977.
