Women's Soccer Plays Scoreless Tie With Duquesne

KINGSTON, R.I. - The University of Rhode Island women's soccer team notched a scoreless tie against Duquesne in an Atlantic 10 contest at the URI Soccer Complex on Friday evening.

Rhode Island outplayed Duquesne in nearly facet of the game, outshooting the Dukes 26-5 while taking 15 corners, compared to Duquesne's 5. Rhode Island had several chances midway through the first half, including a shot from senior captain Catherine Zanni that hit off the post. For the game, Zanni had eight saves while junior Heather Kasparek and senior captain Shannon Kittelson each notched five.

Duquesne junior goalkeeper was outstanding in goal, making 16 stops, including six in the two overtime periods while URI senior keeper Kate Hirsch had three saves in goal.

Rhode Island, 6-3-1, 1-2-1 in the Atlantic 10, will return to action on Sunday, Oct. 14 when they host St. Bonaventure in an A-10 contest at 1:00 p.m.
