The University of Rhode Island women's soccer team kept its post-season hopes alive with a 1-0 win against Richmond in an Atlantic 10 contest in Richmond, Va., on Sunday afternoon.
The two teams battled through 89 scoreless minutes before Rhode Island senior Catherine Zanni sent a long cross from the far side to junior Heather Kasparek on the near side. Kasparek took the pass and sprinted downfield where she fired from 10 yards out into the left corner of the net at 89:05 to give the Rams a 1-0 victory
Senior Kate Hirsch (1 save) and junior Jamie Epperlein (2 saves) combined for the shutout in goal for URI.
Rhode Island, now 10-5-1, 5-3-1 in the Atlantic 10, host Dayton and Xavier in the final weekend of the regular season at the URI Soccer Complex. The Rams haven't lost at home since the 1999 season.
