Oct. 5, 2001

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The University of Rhode Island women's soccer team dropped a tough 3-0 decision against La Salle in an Atlantic 10 contest in Philadelphia, Pa., on Friday afternoon.

"I was happy with our effort tonight," said Rhode Island head coach Geoff Bennett. "We worked hard from start to finish but we couldn't catch some breaks. We outplayed them the entire game and had four shots hit the post and two cleared from the line. We just couldn't finish."

Despite being outshot 10-4 in the opening half, the Explorers tallied the half's only goal as Colleen Farrell knocked home a rebound at the 32:15 mark.

The Explorers added to their lead with second half goals from Shannon Plunkett and Amy Schneider to take a 3-0 lead. Plunkett scored her first career goal when she fired a shot from 20 yards out at the 52:45 mark.

La Salle closed out the scoring for the game on Schneider's second goal at the 57:23 mark.

Rhode Island outplayed La Salle in nearly every aspect of the game, outshooting the Explorers 21-11 and controlling the ball for two-thirds of the game. The Rams were led by sophomore Heather Kaasparek's four shots on goal and senior Catherine Zanni two shots on goal (Seven shots).

Junior Jamie Epperlein made two saves in goal and senior Kate Hirsch had one stop for Rhode Island while Kaitlin Glass and the La Salle defense combined for 14 saves.

Rhode Island returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 7 when it travels to Fordham for an Atlantic 10 contest at 1:00 p.m.
