The University of Rhode Island women's soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision against Dayton in the regular season finale at the URI Soccer Complex on Sunday afternoon. The game was the final contest for seniors Lindsay Fish, Nikki Floris, Deb Godbout, Kate Hirsch, Shannon Kittelson, Kathleen Patton, Corinne Piazza and Catherine Zanni.
Dayton, who had clinched the Atlantic 10 regular season championship on Sunday, opened the scoring for the afternoon when senior Bridget Bushman connected on a pass to junior Shannon Kuhl streaking down the middle of the field. Kuhl then put a shot into the far corner of the goal to give Dayton a 1-0 lead at 18:48. The Flyers took a 1-0 lead at halftime after out shooting the Rams by a 7-1 margin.
Bushman and Kuhl connected again at 67:53 for Dayton's second goal of the game and the Flyers struck again quickly Kuhl added her second goal of the afternoon on a rebounded shot at 69:44 for the 3-0 advantage. Dayton capped the scoring for the afternoon when Kuhl completed the hat trick after an assist from junior Liz Brown at the 82:33 mark.
Kittelson led Rhode Island for the afternoon, posting four shots on goal while Hirsch made seven saves in the setback.
Rhode Island finished the 2001 campaign with a 10-6-2 mark, 5-4-2 in A-10 play while Dayton wrapped up the regular season with a 13-5-2 mark, a perfect 11-0-0 in the conference.
