Women's Soccer Blanks Saint Joseph's, 2-0

KINGSTON, R.I. - The University of Rhode Island women's soccer team posted a 2-0 shutout victory against Saint Joseph's in an Atlantic 10 contest at the URI Soccer Complex on Friday evening. It was the Rams six win in their last seven games.

Rhode Island opened the scoring when junior Sarah Johnston played a through ball in the middle of the field to senior captain Heather Kasparek who fired a shot into the lower right corner of the net, past a diving Saint Joseph's keeper to give the Rams a 1-0 lead at the 24:25 mark. URI outshot the Hawks by a 15-5 margin and held on to the one-goal lead heading into halftime.

URI dominated play throughout the second half and added an insurance goal when sophomore Claire Landon headed in a pass from freshman Megan Rielly to give the Rams a Two-goal advantage at the 85:16 mark. Rhode Island would hold on for the 2-0 victory.

Senior Jamie Epperlein (Glenelg, Md.) made three saves in goal for Rhode Island while senior Christy Ganc had eight stops for Saint Joseph's.

With the win, Rhode Island improves to 11-4-1, 7-1-0 in the Atlantic 10 while Saint Joseph's falls to 4-9-1, 1-6-1 in conference play. The Rams will return to action on Sunday, October 27th when they host Temple at the URI Soccer Complex at 1:00 p.m.
