Women's Soccer Takes Impressive 4-1 Win On Road Against Xavier

CINCINNATI, Ohio - The University of Rhode Island women's soccer team notched an impressive 4-1 victory against Xavier in an Atlantic 10 contest in Cincinnati, Ohio on Sunday afternoon.

Rhode Island jumped on the board early when freshman Megan Kasparek found twin sister, freshman Melanie Kasparek who slipped the ball past the Xavier keeper to give the Rams a 1-0 lead at the 15:56 mark. Senior captain Heather Kasparek added to Rhode Island's lead at the 30:07 mark when she took a pass from junior Sarah Johnston at the top of the box and put it into the upper left side of the goal for the 2-0 advantage. The Rams closed out their scoring for the first half when senior Gina Rosen put in an unassisted goal at the 43:01 mark, giving the team a 3-0 lead. Less than a minute later, Xavier responded as Tracy Kennedy put in a rebounded shot from Meredith Frendt to make the score 3-1 at the 43:52 mark.

The Rams controlled the pace of play throughout the second half and added their fourth and final goal when junior Sarah Johnston stole the ball from the Musketeers keeper and notched an unassisted goal at the 82:30 mark as the Rams cruised to the 4-1 victory.

Rhode Island senior keeper Jamie Epperlein made five stops in net for Rhode Island while Megan Veith had seven stops in net for Xavier.

URI is now 7-3-1 and a perfect 3-0 in the Atlantic 10 while Xavier falls to 4-7, 0-3 in conference play. The Rams will return to action on Friday, October 11th when they host Fordham in an A-10 contest at the URI Soccer Complex at 7:00 p.m.
