Women's Soccer Blanks Richmond, 2-0

KINGSTON, R.I. - The University of Rhode Island women's soccer squad posted an impressive 2-0 victory against Richmond in an Atlantic 10 contest at the URI Soccer Complex. The win was the Rams fourth-straight and third consecutive shutout.

Junior Sarah Johnston opened the scoring for Rhode Island, putting in a pass from freshman Melanie Kasparek at the 7:32 mark. The Rams struck again shortly when senior captain Heather Kasparek notched her 11th goal of the season. Her younger twin sisters, Melanie and Megan Kasparek each tallied assists on the play.

Rhode Island out shot Richmond by a 14-6 margin in the victory.

Senior goalkeeper Jamie Epperlein made one save in the shutout for Rhode Island while junior Megan Cox posted seven stops in net for the Spiders.

With the win, Rhode Island improves to 13-4-1, 9-1 in the Atlantic 10 while Richmond falls to 10-5-2, 7-3-0 in conference action. The Rams, currently tied for first-place in the A-10, will have a chance to clinch their first-ever Atlantic 10 regular season championship when they host George Washington on Senior Day at the URI Soccer Complex at 1:00 p.m.
