KINGSTON, R.I. -
The University of Rhode Island women's soccer squad posted a 1-0 victory against the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee on the road on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Rams notched a 1-1 record during the Wisconsin trip.
"I'm very pleased with the win, though we have to play at a more consistent level," said URI head coach Geoff Bennett. "We had a 1-1 record and worked hard in both games. We need to take the momentum from this win into a tough game against Brown on Wednesday."
Rhode Island freshman forward Trisha Hewitt scored the only goal of the game as time wound down in the first half, putting in a 25-yard chip that beat the keeper out of the box at the 43:23 mark on a pass from senior Heather Kasparek and junior Lauren Melofchik.
Senior goalkeeper Jamie Epperlein made five saves in the shutout victory for URI while Mary Duffy had five saves in the loss for the Panthers.
With the win, Rhode Island improved to 3-1-1 for the season while Wisconsin-Milwaukee fell to 1-4-1. The Rams will return to action on Wed., Sept. 18 when they travel to Brown for an intra-state contest against the Bears at 7:00 p.m.
