Oct. 17, 2003

Box Score

Bronx, N.Y. - The University of Rhode Island women's soccer team posted a 1-1 tie against Fordham in an Atlantic 10 contest at Edwards Parade in the Bronx, N.Y., on Friday afternoon.

Rhode Island opened the scoring early when junior Claire Landon notched her second goal of the season, putting a header after a cross from fellow junior Kelly McTurk at the 6:29 mark. URI controlled the action in the first half, holding Fordham to just four shots.

In the second half, URI again controlled the action until Fordham was awarded a corner kick with just over six minutes left in the game. Beth Purcell took the corner which deflected off Caitlin Gansfuss. Katie Noon then collected the loose ball and put home a header from one yard out to tie the game at 84:22 mark.

In overtime, both teams had their scoring chances, however a steady rain at the end of regulation slowed down play considerably down the stretch.

With the tie the Rams are now 4-7-2, 2-3-1 while Fordham is 8-3-2, 4-0-2 in conference action. URI will return to action on Sunday, October 19th when they travel to La Salle for an Atlantic 10 matchup with the Explorers at 1:00 p.m.
