Women's Soccer Falls To Richmond, 3-0

Richmond, Va. - The University of Rhode Island women's soccer squad dropped a 3-0 decision against Richmond in an Atlantic 10 contest at First Market Stadium in Richmond, Va., on Friday evening.

The two teams battled through a scoreless first half before Richmond got on the board in the 52nd minute on an unassisted goal from senior Edda Gardarsdottir. At the 65:05 mark, Gardarsdottir gave the Spiders a 2-0 advantage, as her shot from the far right corner sailed over the finger tips of the Rams goalie.

The Spiders capped the scoring on the evening with a goal from freshman Brooke Binswanger at the 86:47 mark to set the final score at 3-0.

Richmond out shot Rhode Island by a 17-1 margin in the setback for the Rams.

Rhode Island freshman keeper Melissa Bargione made five saves in the loss while senior Megan Cox recorded a shutout with one stop in the win.

The Rams, now 2-6-1, 0-2 in the Atlantic 10, will return to action on Sunday, October 5th when they travel to George Washington for an A-10 matchup with the Colonials at 1:00 p.m.
