WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL GOES 1-1 AT BLACKBIRD CHALLENGE

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Rhode Island junior outside hitter Rachel Bello tallied 20 kills and 15 digs to lead the Rams to a 3-1 (30-16, 30-25, 27-30, 31-29) victory over Maryland-Eastern Shore in the second round of the Blackbird Challenge, Saturday, at LIU-Brooklyn. URI (7-19) fell, 3-1 (25-30, 30-16, 30-28, 30-21), Friday, to the host Blackbirds in the first round.

Freshman outside hitter Jillian Bekke added 17 kills, while junior middle blocker Ivy Zuidhof added 10 kills to lead three players with double-figure kills against Eastern Shore (5-26). Sophomore outside hitter Joanna Mitchell and freshman defensive specialist Peggy Doino each had 15 digs, while junior setter Inga Schlecht added 43 assists to the winning cause.

On Friday, Bello was credited with 14 kills and eight digs, while Bekke chipped in 11 kills against Brooklyn (19-11)
