How it Happened
Despite a strong performance from Havyn Rolle, VCU swept Rhode Island in three sets (25-20, 25-21, 25-18) on Saturday night in Keaney Gym.

Set One - VCU 25, Rhode Island 20
A kill by Havyn Rolle kill gave Rhody the early 8-7 advantage. VCU then scored nine of the next 12 points in the set. Another Rolle kill brought Rhody within four at 21-17, but the visiting Rams controlled from there and took the opening set 25-20.

Set Two - VCU 25, Rhode Island 21
A stretch that included a VCU service error and an ace from Kiera McCarles gave Rhode Island an 18-16 advantage and forced a VCU timeout. VCU responded and held Rhode Island to just three more points, while scoring the final four points to take a 2-0 lead in sets..

Set Three - VCU 25, Rhode Island 18
Rhode Island had a 3-0 run toward the end of the set thanks to kills by Chloe Abuto, Erika Bracey, and Sydney Houchens that brought the home Rams within six. VCU was too much for Rhody down the stretch and scored three of the last five points clinching the match to complete the sweep.
