University of Rhode Island

Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee's 2024 state budget included $65.8 million is Rhode Island Capital Plan funding targeted for URI athletic facility upgrades. Paid out over the next 2 budget years, the funding will enable the University to revitalize Meade Stadium (football), Tootell Aquatic Center, Bill Beck Field, the URI Softball Complex, and the URI Soccer Complex.

THE SPECIFICS

Phase 1 Status : COMPLETE

Phase 1 of renovations to Bill Beck field was completed in the Summer of 2024 when a new turf field and backstop were installed.

Phase 2 Status: DESIGN PHASE

Phase 2 will begin at a later date focusing on the installation of a new Press Box and Stands. Renderings are currently being designed.

Status: IN PROGRESS

The installation of a new roof at Tootell Aquatic Center began in May 2025. The project is expected to be completed during the Summer of 2026.

Status: ACTIVE CONSTRUCTION

The new URI Track & Field Complex officially broke ground in October 2025 had has maintained steady progress each day. Construction of the new facility is expected to be completed in the Summer of 2026.

Demolition of the East Stands began in March 2026 with an official groundbreaking of the new stands to be announced at a later date. Construction is expected to be completed in the Fall of 2027.
