Final Stats

RICHMOND, Va. - Rhode Island freshman Amanda McGrew (Santa Monica, Calif.) scored a team leading 11 points for the Rams as they fell, 77-54, to Richmond in Atlantic 10 women's basketball action Friday at the Robins Center. Senior Tanya Rhodes (Norwalk, Conn.) pulled in a career-high game leading 15 rebounds in the loss.

The Spiders (9-14, 4-7 A-10) had four players score in double figures, led by senior Araceli Gil and freshman Sarah William with 15 points each. They were followed by seniors Alison Mitchell and Amber Petillion with 13 and 11 points on the night respectively.

At the half sophomores, Whitney Hollis (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Safi Mojidi (Silver Spring, Md.) led the Rams (6-16, 3-8 A-10)with eight points each while Rhodes led all players with seven rebounds. Richmond jumped out 17-8 lead with three three-pointers, two from Gil and one from Williams.

With a trey from sophomore Mia Marcus (New York, N.Y.) with 12 minutes left in the half Rhode Island got within five (20-15), their closet margin of the game. Then the Spiders went on a 21-13 run to end the half up by 11 (41-30).

Richmond continued to extend its lead, with URI getting to within 11, its closest mark of the second half on a pair of free throws from Rhodes, 30-seconds into the action. The Spiders continued to sink the long ball to move the game further and further out of reach for the Rams.

Six different Spiders made shots from behind the arch to give Richmond the 23-point (77-54) advantage at the buzzer. URI did win the battle of the boards, out rebounding Richmond 40-37, however it could not make-up for a poor 28.1 shooting percentage in the second half.

The Rams will conclude their A-10 weekend road trip on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. as they take-on conference newcomer Saint Louis at the Bauman-Eberhardt Center.
