Pair of Rams Ink Professional Contracts

KINGSTON, R.I. -- Rhode Island recent grads Harsimran "Honey" Kaur and Sophie  Phillips are the latest Rams to sign their first professional deals, inking contracts with Esperides Kallitheas in Greece and BG74 Veilchen Ladies in Germany, respectively.

Kaur is the first Indian player - male or female - to sign within the top league in Europe. The team is based in Kallithea, Athens, Greece. Kaur joined the Rams for her final year of eligibility and led the team in scoring (12.2 ppg) while collecting nine double-doubles.

Phillips made the move even more special signing alongside her twin sister, Lilly. "It was [their] most longing desire to play [their] rookie season together in Europe," explains BG74 CEO Richard Crowder. "We are very happy that they have decided to play together for Göttingen. I can imagine what it means for them to play together for our team and take that first step toward profitability together." The twins, native from Greenwich, N.Y., last played alongside each other at Cambridge Central School. While Lilly spent her four years at Albany, Sophie set Rhode Island's 3-point record (238) and was a two-time Atlantic 10 All-Academic selection. The two squared off against each other this past season, with the Great Danes taking the win in Albany Nov. 8.

Kaur and Phillips mark the 10th and 11th Rams under head coach Tammi Reiss to sign a professional contract to play overseas.
