KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island women's basketball team will be playing its final games of the regular season this weekend against the top two teams in the Atlantic 10. The Rams will open the weekend at Charlotte, the No. 1 team in the conference, at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. On Sunday at 2:00 p.m., URI will recognize senior Tanya Rhodes and red shirt junior Audia Moses as it plays host to nationally ranked Temple.
The Charlotte 49ers women's basketball team (19-6, 12-2 A-10) behind the second half scoring of Sabrina Gregory defeated Saint Louis, 65-58, for their eighth straight home victory. With the 49ers win and a loss by George Washington, Charlotte has moved back into sole possession of first place in the Atlantic 10.
Sakellie Daniels leads the 49ers on the season averaging almost 15 points per game. She has 52 steals and 95 assists and is shooting 76 percent from the free throw line.
Prior to heading to Kingston the 17th-ranked Temple women's basketball team (20-6, 11-3 A-10) will play its final home game of the 2005-06 season, when the Owls take on the GW Colonials (18-7, 11-3 A-10) on Friday night at 7 p.m. The teams are currently tied for second place in the A-10 with an 11-3 record.
Dupree leads the Owls in scoring and rebounding, averaging 16.6 points per game and 8.5 rebounds per game. Hairston is second with 12.3 points per game and Comfort is second in rebounds with 6.6 per game. Khadija Bowens is tops in assists, dishing 77, and averages 9.8 points per game.
Up next for Rhode Island will be the Atlantic 10 Championships in Philadelphia, with the opening round set for March 3 at Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse on the campus of Saint Joseph's University.
