Baseball Wins Game Three Against Fordham, 6-1

KINGSTON, RI - Rhode Island sophomore center fielder CJ Simons went 3-for-4 with a run scored in a 6-1 victory over Fordham on Sunday afternoon at Bill Beck Field.

Fordham's (21-28, 11-10 A-10) first and only run of the game came on the very first pitch of the day on a homerun to left field by second baseman Eric Reese.

Rhody (29-11, 14-5 A-10) tied up the game in the second, scoring one run on a fielding error which scored sophomore third baseman Shaun Hagey.

Rhode Island scored four more runs in the fifth to make the score 5-1. Simons scored on a single through the right side by senior left fielder Daryl Holcomb whom later scored on a single down the right field line by junior right fielder Scott Brown. Junior designated hitter Gregg Allen later homered to right knocking in Brown.

Sophomore shortstop Mike O'Malley scored in the sixth because of a fielding error on a ball hit to left by Simons.

Junior Adam Perkins (5-2) earned the win for Rhode Island, pitching eight innings giving up only one run on eight hits while striking out nine.

Rhode Island returns to action on Friday (May 12) when they travel to Missouri to take on Saint Louis in a three game series.
