KINGSTON, R.I.-- Rhode Island lost its first home match of the season this afternoon, dropping a 4-0 decision to visiting Fordham in Atlantic 10 action at the URI Soccer Complex.
Fordham got on the board in the 37th minute, connecting on a free kick from 25 yards out for the first score of the game. The Rams took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
In the second half, Fordham added three unanswered tallies - in the 54th minute off a deflection from URI goalkeeper Jackie Fede; in the 71st minute on a chipshot over Fede's head, and another point blank connection in the 85th minute.
Fede played all 90:00 in goal, allowing four goals while making three stops. Her counterpart, Elisabeth Roald, made five saves.
Rhody outshot Fordham, 20-11, and attempted six corner shots.
For URI, the loss snapped the team's three-game win streak. The Rams drop to 10-4-2 overall and 4-2-1 in A-10 play. Next up, Rhody travels to Saint Louis on Oct. 26 and Charlotte on Oct. 28.
