Rams Host George Washington, Richmond in final Home Weekend of Play

Nov. 2, 2007

KINGSTON, R.I. -- The University of Rhode Island women's soccer team hosts two key Atlantic 10 matches, beginning with tonight's game against George Washington, beginning at 5 p.m. at the URI Soccer Complex.

The Rams, currently 11-5-2 overall, sit in a tie with Richmond for sixth place in the A-10 standings, with a 5-3-1 mark.

Tonight's opponent, George Washington, comes to Kingston with an 8-8 overall record and 3-6 mark in A-10 play. On Sunday, URI hosts Richmond at noon. Prior to the game versus the Spiders, Rhode Island seniors Danya Bowden, Sarah Helldoerfer, Thorunn Jonsdottir, and Deb Nelson will be honored for their achievements and dedication in a Senior Day ceremony.

Rhody is coming off a split in its last two games - on the road against the top two teams in the conference. On Oct. 26, the Rams dropped a 2-1, double-overtime, decision at Saint Louis. Deb Nelson found the back of the net early in the match, before the Billikens tallied the equalizer in the 27th minute. Both squads played to a stalemate until SLU notched the eventual gamewinner in the 107th minute.

Last time out, on Oct. 28, the Rams took home a hard-fought 1-0 victory at first-place Charlotte. Dora Larusdottir scored the game's single-goal, which proved to be the gamewinner.
