March 30, 2007

Box Score

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Rhode Island senior Eric Larson went 2-for-4 with a triple, two RBI and two stolen bases as the Rhode Island baseball team snapped a six-game losing skid with a 9-6 win over Duquesne on Friday, April 30. Sophomore Jamie Degidio (Lincoln, R.I.) earned his first win of the season in 3.2 innings on the mound after replacing redshirt senior starter Adam Perkins, (Hudson, N.H.) who struck out five batters and gave up just four hits in five-and-a-third innings.

Senior Ryan Cunningham (Centreville, Va.) also went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored while classmates Gregg Allen (Dighton, Mass.) and Scott Brown (Portland, Maine) and freshman Oliver Palmer (North Kingstown, R.I.) recorded two hits each.

Rhode Island (3-16, 1-3 Atlantic 10) took a three-run lead in the second inning as Brown and Larson led off with back-to-back singles. Sophomore Dan Rhault (Lincoln, R.I.) then drew a one-out walk before all three runners scored to give the Rams an early advantage.

Cunningham extended the lead the following inning, making the score 4-0 on an RBI by Larson.

A two-run homer by Duquesne's Bill Torre cut the Rams' lead in half in the bottom of the inning before Hagey and senior Dave Savard (Nashua, N.H.) scored to give URI a 6-2 lead in the fourth.

The Dukes tied things up with a run in the bottom of the inning and three more in the sixth but Rhody scored what proved to be the winning run in the seventh inning on an RBI single by Palmer.

The Rams plated two more runs in the top of the ninth and shut down the Dukes' offense with three-straight outs to end the game with a 9-6 victory.

The two teams will meet again tomorrow afternoon, March 31, at 12:00 p.m.
